Although the assistance I received is insufficient to sustain my livelihoods, but it really helped me a lot when I was in dire need of it

This success story is about one of the affected returned IDPs who was served as a beneficiary of cash for work (CFW) activity and worked for the period of eleven days. He received a total amount of AFN 3,800 (345.5 AFN per day x 11 days = AFN 3,800) as assistance for meeting his needs at family level. Mr. Gulbuddin son of Mr. Gul Mohammad lives in Qirghiz village of Imam Saib district. He is originally from Nasari village of the above stated district. He is 43 years old, married, and is having six children (4 boys and 2 girls) with a total of 8 members in his family. Mr. Gulbuddin is the only bread-winner of his family.
He said, “before conflicts and fighting we had a good life. Our area was secure and we could find good labor work daily. I was farming and we had access to the local market for buying things and whatever we needed. Our economic condition was good for which we lived happily. Unexpectedly, all went upside down, when insecurity hit our village, there were serious fighting between government security forces and anti-elements. The opposition groups came into our village and made trenches over there and started fighting with security forces everywhere. There was a heavy bombardment from government side and we were induced to flee. Our houses and well-beings were destroyed and we left the village. We came to district center where we faced multiple problems, there was no shelter, no food, and no working opportunities. It was difficult for us and other poor people to live normal lives”.
He stated, “despite these problems we returned home after sometimes and it looked difficult to live, I felt very helpless as well as disappointed. One-day staff members of ADA along with community elders came to our village; they saw our condition and started the assessment of affected returned IDPs. Later on, I was selected by ADA, I received working tools, worked for 11 days, and I got AFN 3,800 as labor wage. I was not expecting to get a paid job so soon. Cash for work is one of the best ways to support needy people. It supported my family to buy food items and meet our other major needs”.
At the end, Mr. Gulbuddin mentioned, “although the assistance I received is insufficient to sustain my livelihoods, but it really helped me a lot when I was in dire need of it. Please provide such assistance to the poor, it really helps the people to save their lives”.
